The Doting Aunt

running away from the waves
This is Jotel, as I fondly call her, my only niece to my only sister. She grew up with us because her mom has to work. (well, that is the stark reality of Filipino families nowadays.)
She is already in Grade 1, but last semester, her parents tried to unite their family and enrolled her in
So, here I am, the doting “single-by-profession†tita has to do some “sacrificial†duties over again. That includes waking up early in the morning to prepare her to school and more duties that supermoms always do, while managing my own little shop at the same time.
The truth is I am not complaining here. Yes, I am not!
I guess it is just normal to be exasperated in dealing with hyperactive child once in a while; I hope all moms agree on that. But, then at the end of the day, it is really rewarding when little hands will cling onto your neck and kiss your face and say loving words. Actually, the child is already lightheartedly saying “mommy†to me, but that’’s a no, no! Why, because despite everything, I still would not want to encourage the child to loose even a single affection to her real mom. I have already seen so many cases like mine, wherein the children were brainwashed (unintentionally or not) to the extent of developing resentments to their parents. And, I don’t want that to happen to us.
The point is I am just doing this because I love my sister and most of all I love the child.
