High Pinay

I have taken this opportunity to make a list of my Most Beautiful Pinay.

And indeed ranking them from 1 to 100 would just be too difficult.  But atleast I can say that Anne Curtis is on the top of my list.   

Why Anne Curtis? Because I find her beauty so natural and refreshing. And since beauty is not only skin-deep, her too-honest personality is also another added points. She can be sweet, she can be daring, and still look so beautiful.  

Anne Curtis

Anne Curtis (born Anne Ojales Curtis Smith on February 17, 1985 in Australia) is a Filipino-Australian commercial model and actress currently active in the Philippines. Her mother is from the Western part of Pangasinan.

Anne Curtis appeared in supporting roles during the early part of her career, with most of her early TV shows airing on the GMA-7  and she achieved a fan following in her roles in Love to Love, where she was partnered with Richard Gutierrez.

She then transferred to ABS-CBN, where she started to became really popular and considered as a serious actress.  Her first notable soap drama was in Hiram as Stephanie Borromeo with Heart Evangelista. But she is best known for her roles as Celine Magsaysay in Maging Sino Ka Man and as Imang/Fatima, the title role in Kampanerang Kuba.

 Anne became the very first winner on MYX Awards 2005 for “Favorite Guest Appearance in a Music Video” for I Need You by Mark Bautista.

At present, she is busy with her new show to be aired in ABS-CBN with the title “Dyosa”.

Past Relationships

Anne had a very publicized relationship with some of the famous personalities in the showbiz industry, particularly because of her honesty when being interviewed.

Curtis later became involved with Paolo Araneta, a relationship that lasted for two years. By January 2006, however, the local entertainment press confirmed that Curtis and Araneta had parted ways

Curtis also had a relationship with fellow actor Richard Gutierrez in 2004. The two had worked together on the TV shows Nuts Entertainment and Love to Love. Curtis and her relationship with now ex-boyfriend and actor Richard Gutierrez became the subject of gossip particularly after a short video from her cellphone (showing the two making out [naghahalikan lang po]) began to circulate through emails and MMS messages. Her cellular phone had allegedly been lost and the video clip subsequently became public.

Curtis readily admits to the cellphone video: “I don’t see the point of not admitting it,” she explained. “I’ve never been the kind of person to deny anything. I would just look like a liar.”

After a six-month courtship, Curtis entered into a two-year relationship with now ex-boyfriend Oyo Boy Sotto, son of Vic Sotto and Dina Bonnevie. Oyo ‘Boy’ Sotto himself is an actor. Curtis describes her relationship with Sotto as her first brush with genuine love, saying of him: “He was the one who I really loved.”

 And now, the Sam Milby and Anne Curtis loveteam is one of the most popular in showbiz. The two were said to be an item already and have been going out for months. Sources said that Sam Milby and Anne Curtis have been quarrelling lately and in fact, just broke up after a big fight. So they interviewed Anne on the subject and they never broke up. They just had a misunderstanding at that time. Now Sam is still courting Anne again. They are very close, they even have nicknames for each other. Anne calls Sam: ‘TicTac’ and Sam calls Anne: ‘Curt’. Quote from Anne, ‘We are still just friends. But obviously it’s something more special than just friends.’

Another certified block buster by Miss Sharon Cuneta, Caregiver  a movie directed by Chito Roño is the 15th Anniversary offering of Star Cinema. It was shown last May 28, 2008, most of the scenes were shoot in London.

In Caregiver, Sharon plays as Sarah, a school teacher waiting for the petition of her husband who’s working as a nurse in London. Playing Sharon’s leading man for the first time is John Estrada, while Makisig Morales is playing her son in the movie. While waiting for the petition of her husband, Sharon takes a course in caregiving. When she gets to London, she immediately finds work as a caregiver. Conflict and trouble arise for Sharon and John while they are in London and they realize that life in a foreign country is not for them.

It also coincides with Sharon’s 20th anniversary with ABS-CBN as a true blue Kapamilya.

Although Sharon was expecting to do a second movie with Aga Muhlach, Caregiver was a much better comeback movie for Sharon after almost 2 years of not doing a movie.

“Pinay My Girl” Starting May 26, PBB Teen Edition Big Winner Kim Chiu plays the role of the Pinay My Girl, ABS-CBN’s first drama franchise to be aired before Betty La Fea where Bea Alonzo was chosen to be the lead star.

Now Kim Chui plays the Pinay my Girl with Gerald Anderson!

They are so fun and very nice acting with kim… cheers…

 

Whatever the reason maybe, it did rocked Marian sweet sweet image…

But who are we to judge anyway, coming straight from Marian Rivera’s mouth, she had all the right to defend herself when respect between individuals is in question, Her “katarayan” only proves that she is indeed a true blue Batangueña.

She had to stand for her right of privacy, when it was already made clear to that controversial male fan of him that he is not allowed to take pictures or videos during that time.

 But just some thoughts to contemplate, 

• why is she directly the one who have to argue, isn’t it the job of the staffs, P.A.’s  and securities personnels to keep things in order?

• Was the situation really that bad for her to go to that extent of behaviour?

• Since it happened more than a month ago, when her fame is not yet at its highest level,  is it a justification that “hindi pa lumalaki ulo nya”?

Several years ago, I was one of those many people who went to Payatas to help when the awful Payatas “garbage-slide” tragedy happened, we consoled the survivors  as they try to understand why their love ones had to perish in that heartrending disaster that saw hundreds of women, men and children buried alive under a mountain of trash.

That is why I can’t help but feel happy, when I heard the news concerning the success of the Rags2Riches who was able to win in the US Enterprise Award, and learned that the Women of Payatas where the people behind the production.

Their story is really inspiring, they would collect scrap cloth from the garbage dump in payatas, weave them into rugs, before they would sell it to some unscrupulous middlemen who would earn at least P25 while these women would just earn P1 per rug. Thanks to some good hearted businessmen who formed the Rag2Riches who helped them to sell their products into a much better market like bazaar and malls, they where able to earn better income. And when Rajo Laurel joined the team, it became more exciting because theirs rugs were transformed into bag, purse and even wine holders.

From their meagre income of P10 a day, their income soared to at least P1,000 a week. Such an encouraging story of Pinay Achievements. It is just our wish that their business would continue to flourish.

Gina Pareño a Pinay Actress has given another glory to the Philippine Movie Industry, she is part of the main cast of the latest indie (independent) film titled Serbis, which is  among the 20 films chosen to compete in the 61st Cannes Film Festival, the premier international film festival held yearly in Cannes, France on May 14 to 25.

Serbis is the story of a family living in a rundown movie house in Angeles City, Pampanga. Gina Pareño plays the matriarch who owns the moviehouse, while her family members serve as her employees. Playing Gina’s children are multi-awarded actress Jaclyn Jose, former action star Dan Alvaro, and newcomer Roxanne Jordan.  

This is only the third time that the Philippines has been invited to this section in Cannes: the first time in 1980 with the late National Artist Lino Brocka’s Jaguar and the second in 1984 with Kapit sa Patalim, also by Brocka.

Gina Pareño has already received countless recognition in her acting, specially in her second comeback to the industry these past decade..starting with her comeback movie Magic Temple (1996). This Pinay is also a favorite cast of Judy Ann Santos movies or teleseryes. Personally, I enjoy watching Gina Pareño portraying any roles, may it be comedy or best in drama. She is one of the best pinay actress that have been able to make a succesful comeback in the industry. More awards are yet to come for this briliant Pinay Actress..

Gina Pareño (born Gina Acthley in 1950) is a mestiza (Filipino-German-American) Pinay Actress in the Philippines. She has worked in television and film in the Philippines since the 1960s. Recently her work has won international recognition; at the Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema held in New Delhi in July 2006 she won Best Actress award for her role in Kubrador (The Bet Collector). The same movie also won for best director and best picture. During the 32nd Metro Manila Film Festival Awards Night, she was awarded the Best Supporting Actress as an outspoken and brash mother in the movie Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo.

The first Miss Philippines Earth was held sometime during 2001 and Miss Carlene Aguilar was the first crowned Miss Philippines Earth . I was still in college then, I remember the contestants visiting our school to plant trees and as a student assistant we we’re the one assigned to take pictures for documentation purposes, while these beauties are doing their charity work (though it looks really funny to see them all made up, all stunningly stooping down to the ground digging and planting, while smiling at the camera ) Carlene was already a stand out among the contestants. After winning Carlene was able to enter showbiz and recently been involved to some amusing series of incidents starting with Dennis Trillo, the father of her child (who first denied being the father) and recently with Cristine Reyes, the ex-girlfriend of Dennis.

Carlene Aguilar

Carlene Ang Aguilar is a Filipino beauty queen. Aguilar is a former Miss Philippines Earth and a former Bb. Pilipinas World. Carlene was born on February 8, 1982, to her parents Raul Aguilar and Catharin Ang. She has 2 brothers and a sister, all raised in the heart of Quezon City, Philippines. Carlene studied at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Greenhills for her elementary and high school education. She is currently (2005) taking up her Bachelor of Arts course in the University of the Philippines.

Carlene won the title of Miss Philippines Earth and became the country’s first representative to the 2001 Miss Earth pageant. In 2004, she became Miss Chinatown Manila and Miss Chinese International 2nd Runner-up. In 2005, at the Binibining Pilipinas pageant she was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas World. She was also named as Miss Philippine Airlines and Miss Avon. She was a semi-finalist and a favorite by the bookmakers and pageant sites at the 2005 Miss World pageant in Sanya, China.

Carlene went into acting, and had a previous performance contract with Hong Kong’s TVB Network where she stayed for a few months. She has also done fashion and commercial modelling.Carlene can be most recently seen on Filipino television as a dancing contestant on the ABS-CBN show U Can Dance. Billed as a ‘beauty titlist’ in the Filipino version of Dancing With The Stars, her partner is professional dancer Dindo Divinagracia.

Recently, she was proclaimed as Miss Internet WWW Queen 2006. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy on 22 September 2007 and is named Calix Andreas. The father of her son is actor Dennis Trillo. Dennis stated that he felt relieved after making the admission: “Pakiramdam ko mas magkakaroon ako ng peace of mind dahil …kasi hindi ko naman matatago yun habambuhay dahil talagang dumarating sa parte ng isang tao ‘yug ganun nagkakaroon ng anak , parte ng buhay yun e, so yun yung inevitable sa isang buhay.
