Anna Bayle | 1st Pinay Supermodel

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The first time I saw her in the TV was in a show in ABS-CBN, if I’m not mistaken I think it was Korina Sanchez who featured her. At first glance, you can’t see anything special about her, it’s hard to see the X-Factor many designers have seen in her 2 decades ago. But then, maybe because of her age now or just because I don’t have the eye for that thing.  :D

But while watching her, you can’t help but be awed coz ”This is the girl who made it in the international scene of modeling, she is the top designers favorite before, one of the best Filipina models we can be proud of.” In that case her name is really big in the modeling world. An institution in Philippines Modeling History.

Anna Bayle | First Filipina Supermodel

Charisse Pempengco | Pinay International Singer

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Charice Clarice Relucion or Charice Pempengco will now be known internationally as simply Charisse. It was decided by her handler to drop Pempengco in her launching career in the Hollywood.

I first saw Charice in the Little Big Star, honestly she is not my favorite, because I already thought before that there was something amiss during her production number with the other. Especially her instant noodle soup commercial. Now I think it’s because her talent is quite different pala,  pang-international! :-) Of course, I am not saying that the other kids are not for international scene, but I guess there’s something more on Charice Pempengco.

I watched her performance at some Korean show, I might say she performed better there than at Ellen’s Show.  I still remember some forum comparing her to Bianca Ryan, to Lani Misalucha, but not to Sarah Geronimo except nowadays. I think it is Madam Auring who predicted that this 2008, Charice will outshine Sarah, but I believe that won’t happen because Sarah  will always be special in the hearts of the Filipino. And we are thanking Charice for making Filipinos proud once again.  Go girl…. Aim High Pinay!

Charice Pempengco

Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, better known by her screen name Charice Pempengco (born May 10, 1992), is a Filipina singer who became a singing sensation throughout the world through YouTube. She started joining singing contests at the age of seven but became widely known in her native Philippines when she placed third in Little Big Star.Pempengco joined Little Big Star singing contest in 2005, when she was only 13 years old. She was eliminated right away but was later picked in a wild card round to re-enter the competition. She worked her way up to become a finalist. She was a consistent top scorer during the early rounds. But during the finals, she only finished third place, while Sam Concepcion got first place.

Popularity on YouTube

Pempengco first attracted attention in the cyberworld when the FalseVoice channel of YouTube posted her Little Big Star performance of Whitney Houston’s hit, “I Will Always Love You.” Many viewers thought her singing was fake, and that she was only lip synching because of her unbelievable vocals. Another popular video was a face-off between Pempengco and America’s Got Talent winner, Bianca Ryan. These videos brought Pempengco to the attention of Ten Songs Productions, a record company based in Sweden. She then traveled to Stockholm in June 2007 and recorded seven songs, which included three cover songs, namely Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” and the Shakespears Sister’s “Stay” plus four original songs, “Amazing,” “All The Money in the World,” “It Can Only Get Better,” and “Born to Love You Forever.” There is no news about when an album will be released.A few months later, FalseVoice released a video of Pempengco singing the Dreamgirls anthem, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” This earned her an invitation from one of the four national television networks in South Korea, Seoul Broadcasting System, on October 13, 2007 to perform on a talent show called Star King. The Korean audience was wowed by her rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” She also sang a duet, “A Whole New World”, with Kyuhyun of Super Junior. Many viewers reposted her Star King performance on YouTube, and Pempengco found her way into American television. TV network E!’s The Daily Ten featured her Star King performance with the headline, “A Star Is Born” on November 14, 2007 and then titled her “Queen of the Week” on the Hollywood Royalty segment, this time with the headline, “A Queen Is Born” on November 16, 2007.Pempengco’s performance on Star King was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on its November 28, 2007 episode, in which Ellen showed web videos of different people she would like to have as guests on the show. After showing the video, DeGeneres did a standing ovation and imitated Pempengco’s gestures. She later personally invited the young singer to perform on the show.

International exposure

On December 5, 2007, Martin Nievera invited Charice Pempengco to his concert where she sang “The Prayer” with him followed by a solo performance of the song, “One Moment in Time”.On December 19, 2007, Charice sang her already popular “And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going” and “I Will Always Love You” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.. She also met with David Foster and her lawyer Ed Shapiro.Right after coming back from the USA, Charice flew to Korea in order to tape her performance once again for the popular show Star King, where she sang “I will survive” and a duet with the popular Korean singer Lena Park. The song they chose was “I will always love you”. SBS aired the show then on December 29, 2007.On January 4, 2008 Charice Pempengco paid a courtesy call with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Pempengco sang the Philippine national anthem in Game 7 of the 2007-08 PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Araneta Coliseum.Charice latest performance was on Channel 4’s Paul O’Grady Show in London, UK last April 08, 2008. She sang “And I am telling you I’m not going” from Dreamgirls and “I will always love you” as popularized by Whitney Houston. She received two standing ovation from the audience who was amazed by her powerful voice. In May, she will be joining other young talented kids in Oprah.

Lauren Dado | The First Pinay Blogger

Friday, April 25th, 2008

High Pinay is supposed to start as a tribute to all Pinay Achievers out there, but for several days now, I am still searching for my first Pinay Achiever. Of course, many Pinays are currently making us all proud in all different categories.

But I wanted to start with someone special, someone who could inspire bloggers like me. Then yesterday, while browsing Jehzlau’s Blogroll, out of the many names there, I have chosen to open the Filipina Mother’s Recovery Notes, who happens to be the proud mother of The First Filipina Blogger.

So now, may I introduce to you Ms. Lauren Dado….

The First Filipina Blogger

Lauren Dado is the original blogger in the Philippines, she started her blog in December 1996 and at that time, would you imagine, she is just 10 years old. Her inspiration is a 14 year old British girl named Hayley who at that time is already blogging, and that gave her the idea to start her own blog. Although Lauren humbly said that she isn’t the one who started the Blogging Craze in the Philippines .

“In 1996, a blog was called an online journal. It pretty much had the same functions as today’s blogs, except there weren’t any content management systems such as what’s being offered today by Blogger or LiveJournal. The blogs then were updated almost everyday, and entries were written in a diary format. I can’t really remember much of the content except that people never really wrote one-liners, they all had long, descriptive entries” Lauren points out.

Lauren is now a graduate from Ateneo de Manila with a degree of AB Social Sciences. She is now 22 years old and is now blogging at nimrodel.net. Her proud mom is Noemi Lardizabal-Dado who is also a maintaining some inspirational blogs.

Google Inc said on Wednesday it has introduced brand-image ads for mobile phones, in a bid to extend beyond the computer-based Web market into the emerging market for advertising on phones. In a statement on the

RECYCLE, RECYCLE AND AVOID CANCER

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

bottled waters

To help Mother Nature recuperate itself it is good to recycle, recycle and recycle and recycle some more… But to stay away from Cancer, avoid recycling used plastic bottles in drinking water. Why? Because according to studies, chemical released by plastic water bottles can cause cancer (It is not the water that affects you but the chemical released from the bottle)

How to avoid:

  1. Check the bottom of the bottle there should be a triangle sign and there will be a number on it.
  2. If the number is higher than or equal to 5 –> then this bottle is safe to use.
  3. Numbers under 5 will release the chemical. For most bottled water, the number is 1. So stop REUSING those bottles.

Recently a text and internet message is circulating, saying that it is most dangerous for us women to drink bottled water left in the car because this has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels in breast cancer. The doctor said that the heat causes toxins from the plastic to leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue. Use a stainless steel canteen or a glass bottle when you can!!!

recycle numbers

WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW:

  • The numeric codes that you see on many plastic items are used to help sort post-consumer plastics for recycling purposes.
  • Different types of plastics are sometimes referred to as “resins” and the numeric symbols are known as “Resin ID Codes.”
  • Each number (1 through 6) signifies a specific type of plastic and usually appears inside a small triangle (often formed by three adjoining arrows) imprinted on the bottom of a plastic item.
  • The number “7” is used to represent a group of other plastics or combinations of plastics.
  • Resin ID codes are not intended to provide guidance on the safe or appropriate use of any plastic item and should not be used for this purpose.

SANDARA PARK (INTERNATIONAL KRUNG-KRUNG)

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

sandara-park

Flory, a friend of mine and some of the still existing fans of Sandara Park is surely missing her a lot.

Sanda Park is one of the first batch of winners in the Star Circle Quest along with Roxanne Guinoo, Joross Gamboa, Melissa Ricks and the controversial Hero Angeles, they are the original stars who emerged from Reality Search TV programs searching for new stars, who have given new life to our local showbiz industry. What made her stand-out? Aside from a being a Half Korean, she is an extra-ordinary girl with an extra-ordinary humor and views in life that made her popular, even to be tagged as krung-krung ( a Filipino slang which means “a little bit crazy”). She just acts so weird and at the same time remains so sweet and candid and honest to what she believes.

What caused her downfall in the Philippine showbiz? I believe her decision to go back to Korea to study right after winning, did affected her career, although she was able to revive it by her team-up with Hero Angeles. But the controversies that shrouded Hero’s career, affected her the most … from them on her career went from serious and promising to nothing, she even ride the wagon of those teenagers shedding clothes for Men’s magazine, plus switching to the Kapuso station.

Where is Sandara Park now? An exclusive feature from abs-cbn reveals that:

After returning to Korea and signing up with YG Entertainment (one of the major talent management agencies in Seoul), Sandara Park has been busy doing workshops in dancing, singing, and acting to prepare her for the very competitive world of Korean showbiz. Now, she has finished her first major project: a part in the music video for “I’m Sorry” by veteran singer Gummy, which debuted on March 12. In this exclusive interview with ABS-CBN Interactive, Sandy recalls how she felt after finding out she got the much-coveted part, “Wow, go go go! Kasi almost one year din ako di nag-work. So I missed the camera so much! Na-miss ko sobra yung taping, shooting… At bored din ako. Kaya nung tumawag manager ko na shooting na agad bukas, tumalon ako sa tuwa!”

In Korea, it’s a common practice to get artists to star in another star’s music video. Sandy considers herself doubly lucky not just to get the lead role in the video, but also to be paired opposite Top, a member of the popular band Big Bang. She and Top also have a kissing scene in the music video. When news of the kiss spread online, it caused a major uproar among Top’s rabid fans who were curious to find out who she was, making “Sandara Park” the most-searched name in a Korean entertainment portal last week.

After promising to update us with more juicy details on her career, Sandy gives a message to her loyal fans in the country. “I’m so sorry na umalis na ako diyan pero lahat ito para sa mas magandang future and lagi ko kayo naaalala. Please don’t forget about me and wait for my comeback sa showbiz! Pang international krung-krung nako! Lahat ito para sa inyo. Thank you very much. I miss you so much. Mahal ko kayo!”

Personally, I’m glad that she is doing ok now. I wish her well and hope the best for her. GO Girl!

Obviously, Melissa Ricks is following the lead of Roxanne Guinoo and becoming more daring now, she came from Star Circle Quest. Actually Melissa Ricks is supposed to be the Eden in the Panday TV remake of Jericho Rosales (the one played by Heart Evangelista) but since at that time she is only 14-15 years old some scenes are just unworkable for her. She continued to be the sweet teen star honing her skills in hosting and trying all kinds of roles, eventually paired with Matt (from PBB Teen Edition).

Melissa Ricks is a Filipina Actress, at present, her team-up with Matt, (a PBB teen editions housemate before) is doing her good, they look good together on screen and their new show “Sayang na Sayang” is yet to prove her acting ability and would determine her future as a more matured actress under the management of ABS-CBN. Hopefully it would turn out ok for her. GO Pinay.. Aim High…

From the shy girl to the next big leading stars of the Philippine Entertainment. She started as one of the contenders in the Star Circle Quest of ABS-CBN, what’s noticeable about her is her sweet and innocent face combined with an intrepid eyes. Direk Dyogi even made a forecast that she would be the next Kristine Hermosa, and that he would be there to support her. True enough she is one big star now.

Her decision to sign for the White Castle contract and be more bold and daring probed to be one of her wisest decision. (but I just wonder how shedding clothes for those previously teeny bopper stars could make or break them into entering the more serious genre of acting).

Alleged Ira Eigenmann Scandal

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

ira eigenmann

The recent scandal that had slap our Pinay actress is somehow depressing and disappointing. Does nobody learn from the old scandals that have come out? Are these things actually done to serve as their vehicle to stardom? Or are they really the victims of exploitation of some unscrupulous men in our society?…      Who is Ira Eigenmann? Does she need this kind of publicity? Is she to blame for her foolishness? Until now she is not giving any statement about the truth about the scandal. But she is fast becoming a hit in the internet… but I don’t believe that this is what she really wants, to be locally known in such manner. She came from the well respected family of Gil and Eigenmman in our local showbiz industry. She is known to be a sensible woman with decent personality, but why did this happen to her anyway?               It is just so saddening that these stories has to come out and happen to our Filipina actresses… we believe that they have more talents which are more worthy to see than these mere scandalous flesh… She doesn’t deserve it and nobody deserves it!
